Excessive Sweating Treatment: Underarm

EXCESSIVE SWEATING

Our body sweats to control its temperature and prevent overheating. However, when our body sweats more than necessary, hyperhidrosis occurs. Heavy sweating can be embarrassing and can affect your daily activities. Hyperhidrosis can occur in the underarms, palms, face, scalp, genital area, and feet. Sweat is a salt-based fluid produced by your sweat glands. People with hyperhidrosis don't have more sweat glands; instead, their sweat glands produce more sweat. Common causes of hyperhidrosis include diabetes, heart failure, anxiety, and an overactive thyroid.

TREATMENT

The area will be numbed prior to the treatment for extra comfort, and then botulinum toxin will be injected under your skin using a fine needle to decrease excessive sweating. The results will last 3-6 months.

The treatment is very quick and takes about 20-30 minutes. After the injection, you can return to your normal activities. It will take about 2 weeks to see the full results.
